Temporary Assistant Accountant / Accountant

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing business seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant / Accountant to join their team on a temporary basis.
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this is a broad operational finance role offering exposure across the full transactional cycle alongside month-end and reporting processes. The business is looking for someone who can quickly step into the role and operate with minimal supervision, making this an ideal opportunity for a finance professional who is confident working in a fast-paced SME environment.
The Role
You will support key areas of the finance function, including:
Sales Ledger & Credit Control
- Raising sales invoices, PODs and credit notes
- Allocating receipts and maintaining debtor accounts
- Sending statements and proactively chasing outstanding debt
- Resolving customer queries and maintaining accurate records
Purchase Ledger
- Processing supplier invoices and matching payments
- Preparing weekly and ad hoc payment runs
- Reviewing transactions in line with company policy
Reconciliations & Reporting
- Performing bank and supplier reconciliations
- Supporting daily cashflow, debtor and creditor reporting
- Assisting with monthly management accounts
- Supporting VAT returns and balance sheet reconciliations
Audit & Process Support
- Assisting with annual audit requirements
- Maintaining and improving finance processes
- Providing wider team support during busy periods
About You
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or Accountant role
- Confident Excel user (including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables)
- Experience supporting reconciliations, reporting and month-end processes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
- Proactive, reliable and comfortable taking ownership
- Able to hit the ground running in a temporary assignment
