Management Accountant
Your Consultant
We’re working with a well-regarded organisation in Winchester to recruit a Management Accountant to join their finance team on a permanent basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, strengthening controls, and making a real impact. You’ll play a key role in stabilising and developing the finance function, while supporting month-end, audit readiness, and team capability.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you’ll take ownership of financial controls, reconciliations, and month-end processes, helping to embed best practice across the team.
This role is ideally suited to someone who has a head for process improvement, enjoys working in a developing environment, and wants the opportunity to drive positive change and add value.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Controls & Reconciliations
- Lead on implementing and maintaining robust reconciliation processes (bank, payroll, debtors, AP, fixed assets, etc.)
- Strengthen financial controls across journals, coding, payments, and balance sheet processes
- Ensure accuracy and timely completion of all reconciliations
Month-End & Reporting
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts with variance analysis
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Ensure strong audit readiness and preparation of supporting schedules
Team Support & Development
- Provide day-to-day support, guidance, and coaching to the finance team
- Review work, improve accuracy, and build team capability
- Help embed structure, accountability, and consistency
Income & Financial Oversight
- Oversee income streams, billing accuracy, and debtor management
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial information
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements across finance processes and controls
- Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, and month-end timetables
- Drive efficiencies and best practice across the function
About You
- ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified, part-qualified, or QBE will be considered
- Strong experience in financial controls, reconciliations, and month-end
- Experience preparing for audit and working within a structured control environment
- Exposure to statutory accounting and financial reporting would be advantageous
- A proactive mindset with a passion for process improvement and making change
- Confident communicator with the ability to support and influence others
- Strong Excel and systems skills
Desirable
- Experience within education, charity, or not-for-profit sectors (private school experience also highly relevant)
- Understanding of VAT (including partial exemption)
