Head of Finance (Part-Time)

We are supporting a growing and well-established business in Bournemouth in their search for a Part-Time Head of Finance to provide senior leadership, governance and strategic oversight across the finance function.
This is a key hire for the business, focused on strengthening financial controls, enhancing reporting capability and developing the existing finance team as the organisation continues to grow.
2-3 days per week – flexible | Bournemouth (Office-Based) | £70,000 – £85,000 FTE (pro rata)
The Role
This is a strategic and oversight-focused position, rather than a hands-on processing role. You will work closely with senior leadership to ensure the finance function operates effectively, compliantly and is set up to scale.
Key responsibilities include:
Governance & Oversight
- Provide senior financial governance across the finance function
- Review and enhance financial controls and compliance frameworks
- Maintain oversight of statutory and regulatory obligations
Review & Assurance
- Review and sign off monthly management accounts
- Ensure financial reporting supports strategic decision-making
- Oversee key areas including purchase ledger and payroll outputs
- Identify and escalate financial risks where appropriate
Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership and direction to the finance team
- Strengthen financial reporting capability and insight
- Develop and implement structured processes and controls
- Support the ongoing evolution of the finance function
Mentoring & Succession
- Mentor and develop members of the finance and wider team
- Support professional development pathways (e.g. CIMA)
- Contribute to succession planning and long-term capability building
Operational & Commercial Oversight
- Oversee revenue processes including sales ledger and credit control
- Monitor working capital and debtor performance
- Provide financial input on key contracts and commercial decisions
- Liaise with external stakeholders including banks, accountants and legal advisors
About You
You will be a senior finance professional with strong governance experience and a collaborative, leadership-led approach.
You will likely have:
- ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role
- Strong background in financial governance, controls and compliance
- Experience reviewing and signing off financial reporting
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
Desirable:
- Experience within SME, professional services or agency environments
- Experience mentoring and developing finance teams
- Previous experience working in a part-time or fractional leadership role
- Familiarity with systems such as Sage or PSA platforms
Working Pattern
- 2 days per week minimum (flexible working pattern considered)
- 3 days per week preferred initially during onboarding
- Office-based to support team leadership and development
- Flexibility available depending on business needs
