Talent Finance are delighted to be working exclusively with a well-established, growing business near Poole and Bournemouth to recruit a Financial Controller. This is a business with an excellent reputation, a loyal customer base and ambitious plans for the future.
It’s a unique role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail but also wants a seat at the table. You’ll be trusted as the finance lead, with the autonomy to influence decisions and improve how the business operates.
Around 70% of the role is focused on leading the day-to-day finance function, owning financial reporting, controls, cash flow, compliance and the monthly reporting cycle. The other 30% is about partnering with the Managing Director and senior leadership team, helping shape commercial decisions, improve business performance and provide the financial insight that supports future growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you’ll take ownership of the finance function while acting as a key business partner across the leadership team. You’ll ensure the numbers are accurate, controls are robust and reporting is meaningful, while helping directors understand the commercial story behind the figures.
Alongside leading finance, you’ll identify opportunities to improve processes, challenge performance, support operational decisions and contribute to the wider business strategy.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the month-end and year-end process, delivering accurate and insightful management accounts.
- Owning budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial planning.
- Producing commercial analysis that helps directors make informed business decisions.
- Supporting project and contract costing, profitability analysis and margin improvement.
- Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance.
- Managing relationships with auditors, external accountants and professional advisers.
- Overseeing payroll, VAT, corporation tax, accounts payable and receivable.
- Driving improvements across finance systems, reporting and internal processes.
- Working closely with the Managing Director and senior leaders on business planning, performance and future growth initiatives.
About You
You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with previous experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
Just as importantly, you’ll enjoy operating in a business where no two days are the same. You’re happy rolling your sleeves up when needed, but equally comfortable sitting alongside directors, challenging ideas and adding commercial value.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
- Experience leading the full finance function.
- Excellent commercial awareness and the ability to turn financial data into practical business insight.
- Confidence building relationships across all levels of the business.
- Strong Excel and systems skills.
- A proactive mindset with a continuous improvement approach.
- The ability to balance hands-on finance leadership with strategic business partnering.
