Financial Controller

Talent Finance are partnering exclusively with an established and successful SME business in the Poole and Bournemouth area to recruit an experienced Financial Controller.
This is a key appointment, taking ownership of the finance function and working closely with the Managing Director and wider leadership team to provide strong financial control, commercial insight and support for business decision making.
Operating within an international group structure, the role also includes international VAT and group reporting into the US, so we are looking for someone technically strong and comfortable working across different reporting requirements and jurisdictions.
The role
You will have broad responsibility across the finance function, including:
- Leading month end and year end close, management accounts and financial reporting
- Delivering accurate and timely group reporting into the US
- Managing international VAT requirements and compliance
- Budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning
- Project and contract costing, including revenue recognition, profitability and margin analysis
- Maintaining robust financial controls and statutory compliance
- Managing relationships with external auditors, accountants and professional advisers
- Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and corporation tax
- Improving financial systems, processes and reporting
- Providing commercial analysis and insight to support business performance and decision making
About you
We are looking for a fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant with a strong academic background and experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
You will ideally bring:
- Strong SME experience
- International VAT experience
- Experience of international or US group reporting
- Strong financial reporting and technical accounting knowledge
- Good commercial awareness alongside strong management accounting skills
- Strong systems and Excel capability
- Confidence communicating with both finance and non finance stakeholders
- A proactive, practical and hands on approach
This is an onsite position and will suit someone who enjoys being visible across the business and working closely with both operational and senior leadership teams.
